Analyzing my Cat Punchy’s Birth Chart
I’m writing this inspired by Alice Sparkly Kat’s birth chart profiles on their blog, and because my own cat, Punchy, has recently turned 2 years old.
Punchy’s birthday was on March 25th, making him an Aries (which is located in my 7th house of partnerships and contractual commitments as a Libra rising.) I’ve never felt as close to an animal as I do with Punchy. His birthday had a lot of synchronistic meaning for me, so I see him as a reminder of something out there watching after me -- sending me a guardian in the most unserious physical form imaginable.
Punchy is an Aries sun, Capricorn moon, and Scorpio rising. He’s pure charisma but in a way that doesn’t easily translate to warmth or befriending people straightforwardly. Aries, Scorpio, and Capricorn are all signs that like to put people at a distance at first, requiring trust to move forward. As a Scorpio rising, he's intimidatingly handsome and seems unnervingly sentient behind his steadfast gaze. It looks like he's mewing a lot of the time because of the cheek bones that sometimes protrude. The cardinal nature of Aries can be seen in his restlessness, and Scorpio's fixed nature creates a silent hunter. He'll be quick to get bored and cries when he's too under stimulated. I admire his Cap moon with his ability to be so consistent and loyal in his affections and routines with me, despite my need to sometimes focus on the material -- moving cities, finding more serious work for the first time, and other challenges of your early 20s.
Punchy has a Pisces mercury, making him highly imaginative as well. If you watch him, he constantly moves around the world very seriously. Being deeply puzzled in his own noir detective plot. He just genuinely seems to get easily wrapped up in his own delusions and fantasies. He doesn’t have the guts to kill a fly, but he can decimate the shadow on the wall or his tail spooking him.
With his Mars and Venus conjunct in Aquarius, this adds to the sense of restlessness and stimuli seeking. He loves puzzles. With regards to Aquarius' rulership over technology, for one, he's an iPad baby. With Mars associated with exercise and aggressive play, Punchy’s Mars in Aquarius is not interested in playing with dull people holding a stick so much as he loves playing in more long-form, drawn out wild plots you’ll have to create for him to execute a surprise attack on a toy. He’s anti-authority and always looking for friends he can create his own oddball circus with. Like most Aquarius placements, he’s struggled with making friends that can fully accept him or aren’t threatened by his free, uninhibited nature. We constantly joke about how Punchy always seems to come off as off putting and overbearing to other cats when we try to set him up on playdates.
I'd love to read more about astrologers writing about animals in general. It's sweet to allow your pet to have so much depth than we typically allow for in our imagination, especially for cats. Happy 2 years Punchy, to many more.
